HC Deb 21 November 1911 vol 31 cc1013-4
Mr. CHARLES BATHURST

asked whether, under paragraph (1) of the Sixth Schedule to the National Insurance Bill, masons and carpenters forming part of the estate staff in the private employment of a country landowner will come within the provisions of the Bill relating to unemployment?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. J. M. Robertson)

Workmen whose ordinary occupations are those mentioned in the question will be included within the scope of compulsory insurance against unemployment. Workmen following insured occupations only occasionally in an agricultural district are however exempted under the new Clause inserted in Committee.

Mr. C. BATHURST

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the persons to whom I allude in my question are part of the permanent staff of estates?

Mr. J. M. ROBERTSON

I presume that is implied in the question.
