HC Deb 16 November 1911 vol 31 cc518-9
Mr. PETO

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the increase of the percentage of births that have obtained exemption certificates, an increase from 6.3 in the year 1907 to 25.7 in the year 1910, and the consequent loss of income to vaccination officers, he will so amend the existing vaccination orders as to provide for such a scale of remuneration to the vaccination officers as will approximately bring up this remuneration to the average remuneration received by them during the years 1903 and 1907; and if he will issue a general order to that effect?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Burns)

As I intimated in the Debate which took place on the Local Government Board Vote this year, the case is not one which, in my opinion, should be dealt with by a general order. I am doing what I can to meet individual hard cases.

Mr. PETO

Will the right hon. Gentleman endeavour, in doing what he can, to arrange that vaccination officers should be remunerated by a fee dependent upon exemptions from vaccination as well as on cases of actual vaccination?

Mr. BURNS

I have nothing to add to the answer I have already given.
