HC Deb 16 November 1911 vol 31 c518
Mr. BOTTOMLEY

asked the right hon. Gentleman whether he is aware that under the existing law a large number of aliens are placed upon the jury lists; and whether he will bring this matter before the Committee about to be appointed to consider the present system of empanelling juries with a view to legislation securing the right to British subjects of trial by their peers?

Mr. McKENNA

Without committing myself to the precise accuracy of the hon. Member's statement, I may say that the question he raises is one which the Committee will be empowered to consider.

Mr. BOTTOMLEY

Does the right hon. Gentleman dispute the statement in the question that aliens are at present invited to sit on British juries?

Mr. McKENNA

I would not commit myself to the precise accuracy of the statement that a large number of aliens are placed upon the jury lists.
