HC Deb 23 May 1911 vol 26 cc145-6
Mr. FELL

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if the new docks at Immingham will take in ships of the "Dreadnought" type when completed; if the Admiralty was approached on the subject of the enlargement of these docks; and, if so, what was the result?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Mr. McKenna)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. With regard to the second part, negotiations were opened on this matter, but they fell through.

Mr. FELL

Can the right hon. Gentleman give the reasons why these negotiations fell through?

Mr. McKENNA

I am afraid the short reason is that the terms proposed to the Admiralty were such as the Admiralty would not be justified in accepting.
