HC Deb 17 May 1911 vol 25 cc1979-80
Mr. JOHN WARD

asked on what date the contracts for the new works at Crombie, Firth of Forth, were signed; and whether it contains the old or the new Fair-Wage Clause as passed by the House of Commons?

Mr. McKENNA

The contract for the new works at Crombie was signed by the contractor on the 25th March, 1911, and contains the new Fair-Wages Clause, as passed by this House.

Mr. J. WARD

asked what is the number of workmen now employed upon the new ammunition and stores station at Crombie, Firth of Forth; and what provision, if any, has been made for the housing of the men and their families?

Mr. McKENNA

The number of workmen at present employed on the Crombie magazines contract is 178. No provision has been made for housing by the contractor or the Admiralty. I am informed that there is ample accommodation in the vicinity for single men, and also for married men and their families.
