HC Deb 15 May 1911 vol 25 c1644
Mr. C. BATHURST

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture to what cause or causes he attributed the recent considerable increase in swine fever throughout the country; when the Report of the Departmental Committee on this disease would be published; and whether, with the view of checking its further increase, the recommendations, if any, of the Committee as to the adoption of other administrative methods than those now employed would be carried into effect without delay?

Sir E. STRACHEY

The Report has been presented to the President of the Board and will in due course be issued as a Parliamentary Paper.

Mr. C. BATHURST

Can the hon. Baronet say whether it will be in the course of a few days or a few months?

Sir E. STRACHEY

That is not a matter for me to deal with.

Mr. STANIER

asked whether the Board of Agriculture are satisfied that the hog cholera of America is the same disease as swine fever in this country; whether the hog cholera serum as used at the Missouri College has been tried in this country; and, if so, with what result?

Sir E. STRACHEY

Hog cholera is the same as swine fever. I understand the matter raised by the second part of the question has come before the Departmental Committee on Swine Fever.
