§ Mr. BOWERMANasked if the Chancellor of the Exchequer, had received representations from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons respecting the liability of motor-cars used by veterinary surgeons to motor-spirit duty; and, if so, whether he would consider the propriety of extending to veterinary surgeons the exemption from such payment granted to medical men?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEI will refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for the Stowmarket Division last Thursday.
§ Mr. BOWERMANIs it not the fact that veterinary surgeons do a large amount of work for the Board of Agriculture, for which they are somewhat inadequately remunerated; and, if that be so, does it not justify them in the request they make to be exempted from the payment of the duty?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEIt is not really a question for the Government, because no part of this money comes to the Exchequer. It is more a question for Local authorities, because every penny of the money goes to the improvement of roads.
