HC Deb 03 July 1911 vol 27 c781
Mr. CATHCART WASON

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the fact that the serum treatment of disease is still in the experimental stage and that the grave dangers of contaminating the blood of human beings with the serum of diseased lower animals is being demonstrated daily, the Local Government Board will consider the advisability of suspending the order for the free distribution of anti-toxin until medical evidence shall have fully justified its use?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Burns)

I am advised that the use of anti-toxin in the prevention and treatment of diphtheria is fully justified by medical evidence; and that there is no reason to apprehend grave danger to the health of persons so treated.
