HC Deb 21 February 1911 vol 21 cc1722-3
Mr. WILLIAM THORNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has instructed any of the Board of Trade railway inspectors to make inquiries into the overcrowding upon the Metropolitan District Railway which takes place morning and evening upon the section of the line between Aldgate East and East Ham; and, if so, whether he will have a report printed and published in the "Labour Gazette"?

Mr. BUXTON

It is admitted that overcrowding takes place, and, as my hon. Friend is aware from the letters of which I have sent him copies, I have been in communication with the companies concerned, and they are considering the provision of additional accommodation with a view to a diminution of the evil. In these circumstances an inquiry as to the facts seems unnecessary.

Mr. W. THORNE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that he will have no peace until this is remedied?

Mr. BUXTON

I do not expect, nor do I desire, peace.
