HC Deb 20 February 1911 vol 21 c1537
Mr. GOULDING

asked the Prime Minister whether any communications have passed between the British Government and the South African Government, either directly or through the agency of His Majesty's High Commissioner in South Africa, in regard to the substitution of a direct contribution for naval defence, or for any other purpose for the present tariff preference on British goods entering the South African Dominion?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Harcourt)

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the telegrams printed in the Parliamentary Papers published on Friday last, which are the only communications which passed between the two Governments.
