§ Mr. STUART-WORTLEYasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that edge-tools imported into Portugal from Germany are subject to a duty of 20 reis per 100 kilos, whereas the like imports from the United Kingdom are subject to a duty of 60 reis per 100 kilos; and whether it is possible to effect any improvement in the terms of admission for these British imports into Portugal?
§ Sir E. GREYThe rates of duty are 20 reis and 60 reis per kilo respectively, not per 100 kilos. The question of concluding a commercial treaty between Great Britain and Portugal is still under consideration.
§ Mr. STUART-WORTLEYIs the hon. Gentleman aware that Portugal has such a treaty with Germany?
§ Sir E. GREYI must ask for notice of that question.
§ Mr. JOYNSON-HICKSMay I ask if we have the benefit of the Most-Favoured-Nation Clause?
§ Sir E. GREYWe have not got the Most-Favoured-Nation treaty with Portugal. We are at present discussing the question of a commercial treaty.
