HC Deb 22 August 1911 vol 29 cc2281-2
Mr. LYNCH

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government will prepare and distribute among Members of Parliament a Report setting forth the means adopted in the Commonwealth of Australia for dealing with strikes or for obviating them?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)

Papers have already been promised as regards the law and experience of other countries in the matter of labour disputes as affecting the public utility services. With respect to Australia a large amount of information is contained in a Report presented to Parliament, Cd. 4167.

Mr. COOPER

May I ask if he will give the House any idea as to when those papers will be available, as the sooner we can get them the better it will be for the benefit of all?

The PRIME MINISTER

It will take some time to get into communication with the Dominion Government.

Mr. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

May I ask the Prime Minister also to consider the laying of papers showing the action taken by the Board of Trade in various trade disputes since the passage of the Conciliation Bill, and summarising the results which have followed on their action in the various disputes?

The PRIME MINISTER

There is now an annual return, but it may be convenient perhaps to summarise the results.

Mr. CHIOZZA MONEY

Will the right hon. Gentleman add the course of wages before and after the Act was passed?

The PRIME MINISTER

made a reply which was inaudible in the Press Gallery.
