HC Deb 07 August 1911 vol 29 cc791-2
Mr. HUNT

asked the Prime Minister whether he was aware that Herr Silveter, President of the newly-elected Austrian Parliament, had advised his countrymen to unite with Italy and France for the purpose of breaking the power of Great Britain; and whether he would consider the advisability of at once summoning another Peace Conference at The Hague in order to instil peace principles into the warlike rulers of these peace-loving nations?

Sir E. GREY

I have seen a report of a speech. If the report is correct, the speech was very ill-informed; but it is not proposed to summon a Conference in consequence of such speeches—otherwise we should never be without a conference.

Mr. HUNT

What can possibly be the use of our leaders preaching peace if foreign leaders preach war?
