HC Deb 07 August 1911 vol 29 c792
Mr. LUNDON

asked on what grounds the Local Government Board refused to sanction the granting of an old age pension to William Coughlan, Stookeens, Martinstown, Kilmallock, county Limerick, his claim for the same having been passed on two occasions by the local pension committee; and, having regard to the fact that he had been married for forty-seven years, and had proof to that effect, would steps be taken to withdraw the opposition to his claim and thus allow him to obtain what he was entitled to under the Act?

Mr. REDMOND BARRY

William Coughlan was married on the 15th November, 1866, that is less than forty-five years ago, and this fact cannot be accepted as establishing his claim to be of the statutory age. In the absence of other evidence of a satisfactory nature the Local Government Board considered that they had no option but to disallow his claim. He has now made a fresh claim, which is at present being investigated by the Board.
