HC Deb 21 May 1910 vol 116 c396
96. Colonel THORNE

asked the Food Controller if he is aware that a number of wholesale whisky merchants, importers of American whisky, have purchased and paid for a good deal of whisky this year and that they are prevented from importing the same into this country; and if he will take action in the matter?

MR. MCCURDY

It is not yet possible to modify the present restrictions on the importation of whisky, which were imposed both because of the prohibition of distilling in this country and owing to the shortage of freight. I can, however, assure the hon. and gallant Member that, so far as my Department are concerned, the restrictions will not be maintained for a day longer than is necessary.
