HC Deb 21 May 1910 vol 116 cc395-6
95. Lieut-Colonel A. MURRAY

asked the Food Controller whether he is aware that some weeks ago potato growers in the North-Eastern Counties of Scotland expected to get their surplus stocks of potatoes away and were told to put them into sacks; whether lie is aware that these potatoes had already begun to sprout in the pits; whether it is the case that orders were given to any railway company in the North-East of Scotland to refuse to carry potatoes, and, if so, what was the reason for this order; and whether he can see his way to make arrangements for the immediate disposal of these stocks of potatoes which will soon be unfit for human consumption?

Mr. McCURDY

I am not aware of the circumstances to which the hon. and gallant Member refers, but I am having inquiries made and will communicate the result to him.
