HC Deb 21 May 1910 vol 116 cc387-8
78. Major HOWARD

asked the President of the Board of Education whether his attention has been called to the strong desire which has been expressed by per sons living in Sudbury and the neighbouring districts in West Suffolk for the establishment by the local authority of a public girls' secondary school in Sudbury; and whether he proposes to take any action in the matter?

Mr. FISHER

My attention has been called to this matter; and I am advised that the establishment of a public girls' secondary school in Sudbury is very desirable. It will be the duty of the Local Education Authority to submit a comprehensive scheme for the provision of education in West Suffolk, and in considering that scheme the Board will certainly not overlook the claims of Sudbury. I hardly think, however, that the matter is sufficiently urgent to justify me in pressing the Local Education Authority to make proposals for the purpose in advance of the programme which they will submit in their scheme.
