HC Deb 21 May 1910 vol 116 c387
77. Mr. WATERSON

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he will grant a Return showing, as regards each university in receipt of national aid, the staff engaged in teaching, and the salary paid in each individual case?

Mr. FISHER

The Board of Education do not possess the details required for the issue of such a comprehensive Return as is suggested, and I do not consider it desirable at the present moment to address a special request to the universities to supply them. The university authorities are fully alive to the importance of providing adequate remuneration for their staff, and are, I understand, now actively engaged in the process of revising salaries. I hope that the payment of the increased Grants for university education which are provided for in this year's Estimates will enable the universities to deal with the matter satisfactorily.
