77. Mr. WATERSONasked the President of the Board of Education whether he will grant a Return showing, as regards each university in receipt of national aid, the staff engaged in teaching, and the salary paid in each individual case?
§ Mr. FISHERThe Board of Education do not possess the details required for the issue of such a comprehensive Return as is suggested, and I do not consider it desirable at the present moment to address a special request to the universities to supply them. The university authorities are fully alive to the importance of providing adequate remuneration for their staff, and are, I understand, now actively engaged in the process of revising salaries. I hope that the payment of the increased Grants for university education which are provided for in this year's Estimates will enable the universities to deal with the matter satisfactorily.
