HC Deb 31 March 1910 vol 15 c1454
Mr. CHARLES BATHURST

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture if he will state what defects in the opinion of the Board's veterinary advisers constitute hereditary unsoundness in the horse so as to render such animal unsuitable to breed from for military requirements?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Sir E. Strachey)

In the opinion of our chief veterinary officer the uncertainty surrounding the transmission of defects makes it undesirable to lay down dogmatically what constitutes hereditary unsoundness.

Mr. CHARLES BATHURST

Is not this just the sort of information which we might reasonably expect our Department of Agriculture to give full information about?

Sir E. STRACHEY

Not if it is undesirable to do so.
