HC Deb 31 March 1910 vol 15 cc1453-4
Mr. GODFREY COLLINS

asked when the new torpedo factory at Greenock will be completed; and on what dates, and in what numbers, approximately, the men will be drafted to Greenock?

Mr. McKENNA

As far as can be foreseen the new torpedo factory will be completed by 1st August next. The arrangements are not sufficiently advanced to enable any dates to be given for transfers of men, but it seems probable that the majority will be transferred during August and September. The numbers of men to be sent up in each batch cannot at present be stated.

Mr. H. A. WATT

Is the Admiralty purchasing the land for the housing of these men?

Mr. McKENNA

Negotiations are proceeding at the present moment for housing these men, but I cannot say from memory whether the land has been purchased by the Admiralty or the local authority. I believe it is the local authority which is seeing to this matter.
