HC Deb 08 March 1910 vol 14 cc1298-9
Mr. FENWICK

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he was aware of the overcrowding which occurred in the lifts and carriages of the Tube railways of the Metropolis; and whether he would make representations to the companies in regard to the matter?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Sydney Buxton)

Complaints of overcrowding of trains on the tube railways have been made to the Board of Trade from time to time, and brought by them to the notice of the companies. It is not possible, probably, to avoid overcrowding altogether, especially at certain hours of the day, and in the event of sudden storms; but if details of particular cases are furnished I will communicate with the companies concerned.
