HC Deb 20 June 1910 vol 18 cc38-9
Mr. JAMES O'KELLY

asked the Chief Secretary whether his attention has been drawn to a memorial addressed to the Congested Districts Board and the Land Commissioners on behalf of certain small tenants on the Taafe estate, at Fox-borough, county Roscommon; whether he has any official information to the effect, as set forth in the said memorial, that the untenanted portion of the land on this estate is required to enlarge the uneconomic holdings of the memorialists; whether he is aware that there is no other land in the district available for this purpose; whether he will arrange for a local inquiry to be held by a competent instructor; and whether, pending the result of such inquiry, he will give instructions that the property shall not be otherwise disposed of?

Mr. BIRRELL

My attention has been drawn to the memorial referred to. The estate in question is situate in a congested districts county, and was one of those pending for sale to the Estates Commissioners at the passing of the Irish Land Act, 1909. The Congested Districts Board have decided to take over and continue the proceedings, and the property will be inspected at an early date by an officer of the Board.
