HC Deb 27 July 1910 vol 19 cc2119-20
Mr. BOLAND

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland when do the Commis- sioners of National Education propose to send one of their organisers to the Kenmare district to instruct the teachers in Irish, with a view to introducing it for bi-lingual instruction in the schools of the district or as an extra subject, as the case may be?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Birrell)

The Commissioners of National Education inform me that their Irish language organisers do not instruct teachers in Irish. In localities where they may have to spend a week or more they arrange to give lectures on Saturdays, at which teachers are given an opportunity of attending. No such arrangement has yet been made in Ken-mare district, but the matter will be considered when the other engagements of the organiser permit.
