HC Deb 27 July 1910 vol 19 c2119
Mr. DOUGLAS HALL

asked the Under-Secretary for India what was the total number of persons, not at the time of appointment in permanent Government employment, who had been appointed since January, 1906, to positions under the India Office with salaries exceeding £100 a year, and who did not previously to their appointment pass an examination by the Civil Service Commissioners; and what was the total value of their salaries?

The UNDER-SECRETARY for INDIA (Mr. Montagu)

The number of persons was eleven, and the total value of their salaries on appointment was £1,895. All the posts in question fell within the terms of Section 4 of the Superannuation Act, 1859, as "situations for which professional or other peculiar qualifications not ordinarily to be acquired in the public service are required."
