HC Deb 14 July 1910 vol 19 c590
Viscount CASTLEREAGH

asked the Chief. Secretary for Ireland whether he proposes to introduce a measure dealing with midwives in Ireland on the lines of the legislation already in operation in England, subject to the necessary modifications to meet special Irish conditions?

Mr. BIRRELL

I do not propose to introduce legislation on the subject, at all events during the present Session. I would point out that there is not the same urgency in the matter in Ireland as in England, having regard to the powers which boards of guardians in Ireland already possess.
