§ Mr. BIRRELLIn direct sales under the Act of 1903 proceedings have been instituted before the Estates Commissioners for the sale of 248 estates in county Clare comprising 5,921 holdings for a total purchase money of £1,602,216, the average number of years' purchase being 20.7. Advances have been made in the case of seventy-nine of these estates, comprising 1,098 holdings, with a total purchase money of £332,147, the average number of years purchase being twenty-one. In addition the Estates Commissioners have purchased, or agreed to purchase, thirty-three estates for a total purchase money of £145,120. Of these thirteen estates have been re-sold to 215 tenants for a total sum of £79,752. Proceedings are pending for the purchase of sixteen estates by the Commissioners.
