§ Mr. JOHN WARDasked whether the First Lord of the Admiralty's attention has been drawn to a fatal accident to a workman employed by the contractor on the new lock works at Portsmouth; whether his Department was represented at the inquest; and if it is proposed to independently investigate the cause and circumstance of this case, in view of their frequent occurrence on these works?
§ Mr. McKENNAThe answer to the first and second parts of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the last part, it is not considered that there is any need to hold an independent investigation by 611 the Admiralty, as the facts were fully brought to light at the inquest at which the Inspector of Factories was present.
