HC Deb 14 July 1910 vol 19 c611
Mr. ASHLEY

asked how many destroyers of the old 27-knot type are now borne on the Navy List; and how many have been commissioned to take part in the present manœuvres?

Mr. McKENNA

The answer to the first part of the question is thirty-four; and to the second part, none.

Mr. ASHLEY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the fact that these destroyers were not commissioned for the manœuvres through lack of men or inefficiency?

Mr. McKENNA

They were not certified as requisite for the particular service of the manœuvres.

Mr. ASHLEY

Is it the fact that these vessels are not fit for sea in home waters?

Mr. McKENNA

The hon. Gentleman must not assume that.
