§ Mr. CHARLES BATHURSTasked the Secretary to the Treasury if he will state what was the aggregate net amount of revenue, if any, derived from timber in the Forest of Dean and the New Forest, respectively, during the years from 1900 to 1905, inclusive, after deducting the salaries and wages of all persons employed by the Crown, except in connection with minerals, and the annual expenditure upon felling, conversion, replanting, fencing, making of nurseries, and all other expenses of and incidental to the management, maintenance, and protection of the above properties; also, if he will state what is the net amount of revenue, if any, derived from timber in the Forest of Dean and New Forest, respectively, during each of the last three completed financial years, after deducting all expenses of and incidental to the management, maintenance, and protection of the said properties?
§ Mr. HOBHOUSEAs during the periods in question it was not practicable consistently with good management to fell timber in quantities sufficient to defray all expenses of and incidental to the management, maintenance, and protection of these two forests, there has been no net revenue from timber. The hon. Member may perhaps like to refer to the figures regarding the two forests which appear in the Annual Report of the Commissioners of Woods.
