HC Deb 21 April 1910 vol 16 c2311
Mr. LONSDALE

asked whether the hon. Gentleman has any information with reference to military operations now in progress in the region of the Nigerian Protectorate?

Colonel SEELY

The operations to which the hon. Gentleman refers have been undertaken with the object of securing the safety of the station at Obudu and of the Obudu-Ogoja road and opening up the Obudu-Katsena Allah road. Obudu and Ogoja are the two northernmost stations in the Eastern Province of Southern Nigeria, and Katsena Allah is the nearest frontier station of the Northern Nigeria Government. According to my information, the operations, which I trust will not necessarily involve fighting, are being conducted exclusively by the Southern Nigeria Government, but no report of their progress has yet reached the Secretary of State.
