HC Deb 21 April 1910 vol 16 c2302
Mr. WILLIAM PEEL (for Mr. Court-hope)

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to the Milk and Dairies Bill, and to the general desire expressed by the representations of producers and consumers alike that general legislation on this subject should be passed this Session; and whether, under these circumstances, he will afford facilities for this Bill to be read a second time upon the day when the Committee stage of the Consolidated Fund Bill is taken?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, Sir, I am afraid not. From the information that reaches me I do not think that the Bill in question can be regarded as non-contentious.

Mr. WILLIAM PEEL

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the President of the Local Government Board, speaking on behalf of the Government, has for the last two years given a pledge to bring in a comprehensive measure dealing with the question of the milk supply of this country?

The PRIME MINISTER

That is so.

Mr. W. PEEL

Does not that modify the Prime Minister's answer?

The PRIME MINISTER

No. The answer I have read was settled in consultation with my right hon. Friend.
