HC Deb 19 April 1910 vol 16 c1863
Mr. MILD MAY

asked the Secretary for War whether he will consider the possibility of removing the disparity, amounting to the sum of over 3s. per week, between the wages paid to labourers in His Majesty's Gunwharf, Devonport, and those paid to the same class employed in the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, the work in both cases, and the cost of living in Devonport and Woolwich being practically similar?

Mr. HALDANE

The difference, which is 2s. 6d. a week and not 3s. as stated in the question, reflects the difference existing between the local rates in Devonport and London according to the information in my possession. Assuming this to be so no action appears necessary.
