§ Mr. LAIDLAWasked the Under-Secretary of State for India if the new Education Code for Bengal, which was to be introduced in January next, had been definitely withdrawn or postponed; and if he was in a position to state what the Government of Bengal proposed to do in the matter.
The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (The Master of Elibank)The Secretary of State has no information as to any intention on the part of the Government of Bengal to withdraw or postpone the Code. So far as he is aware, they propose to bring it into force on 1st January next.
