Mr. PIKE PEASE (for Captain Morrison-Bell)asked why a colonel commanding a Special Reserve battalion is only allowed 3s. 6d. a day and travelling allowance, and no pay for the four days that he has to perform the duty of inspecting the recruits at his headquarters?
§ Mr. ACLANDA commanding officer of a Special Reserve battalion is merely authorised to visit the depot with a view to inspecting the recruits of his battalion. There is no order that he must do so. Pay is issued only when officers are ordered on military duty. It is greatly regretted that the reply given to a previous question on this subject by the hon. and gallant Member was incorrect.
