HC Deb 06 September 1909 vol 10 c893
Mr. HAROLD COX

asked whether land which has been bonâ fide devoted to commercial purposes by the building of greenhouses upon it is to be taxed as undeveloped land; and, if so, what are the words of the Bill which distinguish this land from land which has been developed by the erection thereon of some other kind of building?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I may remind my hon. Friend that the Chancellor of the Exchequer undertook in the course of the Debate on the 1st inst. to consider the case of land on which glasshouses were being erected.

Mr. BYLES

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider whether these complexities could not best be removed by eliminating the word "undeveloped," and puting a tax on all land?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

That is rather a larger issue than I could reply to by way of question and answer.
