HC Deb 06 September 1909 vol 10 c898
Mr. CLANCY

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether a considerable tract of untenanted land, known as Stillorgan Park, in the Rathdown rural district of the county of Dublin, has been frequently suggested by the local labourers as a fit site for labourers' cottages; whether any effort has been made to carry out this suggestion, and, if not, will he say why this has not been done?

Mr. BIRRELL

My attention has been drawn to this matter by the South Dublin Working Men's Association. I understand that the rural district council, having tried without success to get some of this land for labourers' cottages and plots, have decided by resolution that it would be a waste of public money to attempt to acquire any of the land compulsorily for that purpose as most of it is demesne and the rest valuable building land.
