HC Deb 02 September 1909 vol 10 cc550-1
Mr. J. C. FLYNN

asked whether the Estates Commissioners have taken any recent action in respect to the acquisition of the holding on the Pyne O'Callaghan estate, near Kanturk, from which Conn Donovan was evicted, with a view to his reinstatement thereon; are the Commissioners aware that the representatives of the late tenant Singleton are desirous of surrendering the holding upon receiving reasonable consideration there for in order to facilitate Donovan's reinstatement; and whether, having regard to this fact and the arrangement brought about by Inspector Vaughan, the Commissioners have abandoned their intention of acquiring this holding?

The ATTORNEY-GENERAL for IRELAND (Mr. R. R. Cherry)

The Estates Commissioners are intimating to the owner the price they will be prepared to advance if the holding is sold to them with a view to effecting the reinstatement of the former tenant.

Mr. FLYNN

Has the right hon. Gentleman the name of the present occupier?

Mr. CHERRY

No, I have not.

Mr. FLYNN

asked whether the Estates Commissioners are taking action at present in regard to purchase negotiations on the Colthurst estate, Rathcoole, county Cork; and, if so, what steps they propose taking towards procuring the reinstatement of Mrs. Julia Lyons, evicted tenant, whose case has been under their consideration for a considerable time past, and in which case the present occupier is willing to surrender the holding on receiving moderate compensation?

Mr. CHERRY

I am informed by the Estates Commissioners that this estate has been sold under the Irish Land Act, 1903, and that the holdings have been vested in the tenants. The holding referred to in the second part of the question has been purchased by the present occupier, and the Commissioners do not intend to take any action in reference to Mrs. Lyons' application.
