HC Deb 02 September 1909 vol 10 cc551-2
Mr. D. SHEEHY

asked whether a force of police was sent to Portadown from Meath on the 14th August; whether Meath is charged for extra police taken from other counties; and, if the police can be spared from Meath, is it to eke out a profit for the Treasury that an extra force is kept in Meath and charged to it notwithstanding its peaceable condition?

Mr. CHERRY

It is true that a force of police was sent from Meath to Portadown for duty on the 15th instant, but the hon. Member is mistaken in supposing that an extra force is now kept in Meath and charged to it. No extra police have been serving in the county since the 26th May last.
