Mr. ASHLEY

asked to whom the profits of canteens on transports are paid over, and for whose benefit they are expended?

Mr. HALDANE

The profits of canteens on transports are paid to funds administered by the Commander-in-Chief in India and by the Adjutant-General to the Forces at the War Office. From these funds grants are made (1) to officers commanding troops on board transports to be expended in the manner set forth in paragraph 1613, King's Regulations; (2) to military charities.
