HC Deb 05 October 1909 vol 11 c1838
Mr. ARTHUR LYNCH

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, whether, in the event of the consideration of an application for an old age pension having been unduly delayed, but with the result that the pension was subsequently granted, he will take care that the payment be made retrospective so that the applicant may not suffer by reason of such delay?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

Under the provisions of Section 5 (2) of the Old Age Pensions Act a pension granted to a person who has already attained the age of 70 commences to accrue on the first Friday after the claim has been allowed, and the Treasury has no power under the Act to direct payment as from an earlier date.
