§ Mr. ACLANDExact figures are not yet available, but it is estimated that of the 108,000 men serving on a one year engagement on 1st October, 1908 (the date on which the returns are made up), 51,000 have re-engaged for one year, 20,000 for more than one year, and 37,000 have left the force.
