HC Deb 04 October 1909 vol 11 c1641
Mr. HART-DAVIES

asked the Secretary for War if he could state how many of the Volunteers who joined the Territorial Army for one year prior to 30th June, 1908, extended their service with the Territorial Forces on the expiration of that year, and for how long and for what term of service?

Mr. ACLAND

Exact figures are not yet available, but it is estimated that of the 108,000 men serving on a one year engagement on 1st October, 1908 (the date on which the returns are made up), 51,000 have re-engaged for one year, 20,000 for more than one year, and 37,000 have left the force.
