HC Deb 04 October 1909 vol 11 cc1640-1
Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

asked whether a date had yet been fixed for the disbandment of the following regiments:—Royal Field Reserve Artillery, South East of Scotland, Devon, Donegal, Dublin City, Durham, Edinburgh, Fife, Forfar and Kincarcardine, Glamorgan, Hampshire, Kent, 1st Lancashire, 2nd Lancashire, Limerick City, Mid-Ulster, Norfolk, Northumberland, Carmarthen, Suffolk, Sussex, Tipperary, Waterford, West of Scotland, Pembroke, Yorkshire, Cardigan, Wicklow, Sligo, Londonderry, Clare, and the Cornwall and Devon Miners; and what steps he intended to take to fill up the blank caused by the destruction of 31 well-trained and efficient regiments in the interest of the defensive strength of the country?

Mr. ACLAND

No date of final disbandment of these units has been fixed. As regards the last part of the question the scheme for the amalgamation and reduction of the Royal Field Reserve Artillery and the enlistment of three year men for the Regular Royal Artillery who will replace the men of these units, has already been fully explained to the House.
