HC Deb 04 October 1909 vol 11 c1652
Mr. J. BOLAND

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he can state what petitions against the Jersey Education Bill have been received by the Privy Council; and if he can say when they will be listed for hearing?

Mr. MASTERMAN

Three petitions have been lodged against the Jersey Education Bill, namely:—A petition of members of Church of England, trustees, managers, and supporters of Church Schools in Jersey (bearing 2,094 signatures) received at Privy Council Office on 9th September, 1909; a petition of Roman Catholic clergy and laity of Jersey (bearing 3,434 signatures) received at Privy Council Office on 13th September, 1909; and a petition of certain ratepayers of Jersey (bearing 354 signatures) received at Privy Council Office on 18th September, 1909. They will now be forwarded to the Jersey States for observations.

Mr. BOLAND

Can the hon. Gentleman answer the latter part of my question—when they will be listed for hearing?

Mr. MASTERMAN

That depends upon the acceleration of the Jersey States' observations.

Mr. BOLAND

I will put down another question in a month's time.
