HC Deb 03 November 1909 vol 12 c1804
Mr. HUDSON

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if his attention had been called to the complaints made by the Boiler Makers' and Ion and Steel Ship Builders' Society against the firm of Armstrong, Whitworth, and Company, Elswick, in that they are violating the spirit and letter of the Fair Wages Resolution of the House of Commons with respect to men employed upon hydraulic and pneumatic machines, who are not paid up to the rate of wages which obtains for the same class of work in the district, and asked what action, if any, he proposes to take in the matter?

Mr. McKENNA

I received a letter from my hon. Friend yesterday, in which he brings before me the complaint referred to, and I am giving immediate attention to the matter.

Mr. T. F. RICHARDS

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he could state the result of the inquiry into the alleged violation of the Fair Wages Clause at the Coventry Ordnance Works?

Mr. McKENNA

The Coventry Ordnance Works are now paying the district rate.
