HC Deb 18 May 1909 vol 5 c224
Mr. ESSEX

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether the Northleach (Gloucester) Guardians, in transferring certain life policies belonging to one William Jones, a pauper, made any allowance therefrom to the wife of the said William Jones; and what was the realised value of these policies?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Burns)

I understand that two policies on the life of William Jones were handed to the guardians on his admission to the workhouse, three others on the life of his wife remaining in her possession. An offer of £7 has been made for the two policies, but the matter has not yet been dealt with by the guardians, who will have it before them at their next meeting. I am informed that the relief granted to this man and his wife from Michaelmas, 1906, to Lady Day, 1909, amounted to £29 1s. 11d.
