HC Deb 18 May 1909 vol 5 cc223-4
Mr. ESSEX

asked the hon. Member for the Crewe Division, as Ecclesiastical Commissioner, whether, in leases offered to county councils for land for small holdings and allotments, they are making it the rule to insert similar clauses to those which they inserted and afterwards waived in response to the objections of the county council for Gloucestershire?

Mr. JAMES TOMKINSON

The clauses form part of the standard draft lease employed by the Commissioners' solicitors. All such clauses are subjects for negotiation in the settlement of the leases. Although waived in certain cases of leases to the Gloucestershire County Council, the clauses have been accepted by other county councils in cases in which the drafts have, moreover, been submitted by the county councils to the Board of Agriculture, and have been approved by that Board.

Mr. HARMOOD-BANNER

Are the terms of these leases in accordance with the ordinary form of lease, or are they severer than the ordinary terms of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners' leases?

Mr. TOMKINSON

asked for notice of the question.
