HC Deb 17 May 1909 vol 5 c12
Mr. LONSDALE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he was aware that the Board of Customs had issued instructions defining the products which under the term petrol were chargeable with duty; and whether he would state when those instructions came into force, and lay a copy of them upon the Table?

Mr. LLOYD-GEORGE

Confidential instructions notifying the effect of the Resolution passed on the 29th ultimo in regard to motor spirit have been issued by the Commissioners of Customs and Excise for the guidance of their officers. These instructions are of a tentative and provisional character, and are intended for Departmental use only. It would be contrary to precedent to lay them on the Table.
