HC Deb 10 May 1909 vol 4 c1441
Mr. LONSDALE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the duty on petrol and other spirits used for motor vehicles is a Customs duty; and, if so, whether it is intended to put a corresponding Excise duty upon Scottish paraffin spirit and British coal-tar benzine, and any other home-made spirit capable of being used for motor vehicles?

Mr. LLOYD-GEORGE

The duty on imported motor spirit is a Customs duty. There will be a corresponding Excise duty.
