HC Deb 10 May 1909 vol 4 c1453
Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he can state how many of the labour troubles that caused, or may cause, a delay in the completion of certain ships built or being built for the Government in private shipbuilding yards were caused by the employers attempting to enforce a reduction of wages?

Mr. McKENNA

We have no sufficiently precise knowledge of the facts to enable a reply to the question to be given.

Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, in view of the delay caused by so-called labour troubles in completing within the specified time certain ships for the Navy built and being built in private shipbuilding yards, he can see his way to insert a condition in all future contracts that no time allowance will be made in case of labour troubles if such are caused by the employers endeavouring to force a reduction of wages?

Mr. McKENNA

It is not proposed to insert a condition of the nature indicated.
