HC Deb 04 May 1909 vol 4 c892
Sir WILLIAM BULL

asked whether the Committee of National Defence have recently considered the advisability of establishing national granaries, so that in case of invasion or investment by an enemy there should be a reasonable supply of food to avert panic, and in ordinary times to keep the price of wheat uniform?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)

The question of the establishment of national granaries was fully considered four or five years ago by the Royal Commission on the Supply of Food and Raw Material in time of War, and the conclusions at which the Commission arrived will be found in the published Report. The subject has not since been brought before the Committee of Imperial Defence.
